Brompton Cleaners Health And Safety Policy

Brompton Cleaners is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our cleaning activities. We recognise that effective health and safety management is essential to the quality of our services and to the wellbeing of everyone involved in our operations.

This policy sets out the principles and arrangements that guide our approach to health and safety across all cleaning services, including domestic cleaning, commercial cleaning, end of tenancy cleaning and specialist cleaning work.

Health And Safety Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the senior management of Brompton Cleaners. We ensure that adequate resources are provided for implementing this policy, including appropriate staffing, training, supervision and equipment.

Managers and supervisors are responsible for day to day implementation of health and safety procedures, including conducting risk assessments, ensuring staff follow safe systems of work and monitoring the condition of equipment and materials.

All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Employees must cooperate with Brompton Cleaners by following safety instructions, using equipment correctly, wearing any required personal protective equipment and reporting hazards or incidents immediately.

Risk Assessment And Safe Working Practices

Brompton Cleaners undertakes suitable and proportionate risk assessments for all significant cleaning tasks. These risk assessments identify hazards, evaluate risks, and determine appropriate control measures to reduce risks to an acceptable level.

We develop safe systems of work based on these risk assessments. These cover typical cleaning activities such as floor cleaning, use of ladders or steps, handling of waste, use of electrical equipment, bathroom and kitchen cleaning, and any specialist or high risk cleaning tasks.

Risk assessments and procedures are reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes in our services, equipment, products used or locations where work is carried out.

Training, Instruction And Supervision

Brompton Cleaners provides appropriate health and safety training to all employees when they start work and at regular intervals thereafter. Training includes general health and safety awareness, correct use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, manual handling techniques, slip and trip prevention, and emergency procedures.

Additional specialist training is provided where required, for example for work at height or the use of particular cleaning machines. Supervisors monitor performance to ensure that training is understood and applied in day to day work.

Instructions for safe working are communicated clearly to all staff. Where necessary, written procedures and guidance are issued and explained during team meetings or individual briefings.

Use Of Cleaning Chemicals

Chemical safety is a core part of our health and safety policy. Brompton Cleaners only uses cleaning chemicals that are suitable for professional use and that have appropriate safety information available. We maintain information for all products and ensure that employees are trained to understand product labels and instructions.

Chemicals are stored, transported, diluted and used in accordance with manufacturer guidance and our internal procedures. Employees are instructed never to mix incompatible chemicals and to use the least hazardous product that will achieve the required cleaning result.

Personal protective equipment is provided where necessary, such as gloves, eye protection or masks, and employees are required to use this equipment correctly when handling or applying cleaning products.

Equipment, Materials And Personal Protective Equipment

Brompton Cleaners provides and maintains cleaning equipment that is suitable for the tasks to be performed and kept in safe working order. This includes vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaning machines, floor buffers, mops, buckets, cloths and any specialist machinery.

Equipment is inspected regularly and any defects are reported and dealt with promptly. Faulty equipment is removed from use until repaired or replaced.

Appropriate personal protective equipment is supplied to staff based on risk assessments. This may include items such as gloves, aprons, footwear with slip resistant soles, eye protection and respiratory protection where needed. Employees are instructed in the correct use, cleaning and storage of personal protective equipment.

Manual Handling And Prevention Of Slips, Trips And Falls

Many cleaning tasks involve manual handling of equipment, materials and waste. Brompton Cleaners trains employees in safe lifting and carrying techniques to reduce the risk of injury. Where possible, we use trolleys or other aids to minimise manual handling.

We recognise that wet floors, trailing cables and misplaced equipment can create slip and trip hazards. Our staff are trained to use warning signs, manage cables carefully, keep walkways clear and dry floors as quickly as possible. We encourage all employees to identify and remove potential hazards as part of their normal work routine.

Working At Client Premises

Our employees often work at client premises, including homes, offices and other workplaces. At each location, our staff are required to familiarise themselves with any relevant on site safety information and to cooperate with the client’s own safety arrangements.

Brompton Cleaners ensures that our working methods are adapted to the specific features of each site, taking account of access routes, shared spaces, security requirements and any known hazards. We aim to organise work to minimise disruption and to maintain a safe environment for clients, staff and visitors at all times.

Accidents, Incidents And Emergency Procedures

All accidents, incidents, near misses and hazardous situations must be reported promptly to a manager or supervisor. Brompton Cleaners investigates such events to identify causes and to implement corrective actions, helping to prevent recurrence.

Employees are instructed on what to do in the event of fire, medical emergencies, chemical spills or other urgent situations. This includes following any site specific emergency procedures and cooperating with emergency services when required.

Health, Welfare And Wellbeing

Brompton Cleaners is committed to protecting the health and welfare of its employees. We take steps to prevent work related ill health by managing exposure to chemicals, noise, repetitive tasks and other potential sources of harm. Where appropriate, adjustments are made to work activities to account for individual needs.

We encourage open communication about health and safety issues and support employees who raise concerns or suggestions for improvements. No employee will be disadvantaged for reporting a genuine safety concern.

Monitoring, Review And Continuous Improvement

This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective, relevant and up to date with current best practice in the cleaning industry. We monitor our performance by reviewing incident reports, inspection findings, staff feedback and client comments.

Brompton Cleaners is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety. We aim to learn from experience, adapt to new methods and technology, and maintain high standards in every aspect of our cleaning services.

This policy is communicated to all employees and is available to clients and other interested parties on request.
